Mr. Chad McWhinney is a co-founder of McWhinney Real Estate Services, Inc. and currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. McWhinney’s entrepreneurial spirit became apparent in high school, when he, along with his brother, helped harvest berries on the family’s southern California berry farm. In 1986, after harvest season was over, the duo began selling McWhinney Berries to their high school classmates. Several years later, they had earned more than $1 million in revenue and were selling berries in 28 locations.
In an interview, he explained, “All of our money went back into the business.” He used moving berries and purchasing harvest equipment as examples.
However, he quickly noticed one huge problem. “That all depreciates over time. I didn’t want my assets to depreciate; I wanted to do it the asset appreciation way.”
By mid-1993, he had developed a new plan after reading about the Colorado real estate boom in a TIME article. In September, Chad and his brother, Troy, had moved to Colorado.
Considered to be a visionary leader, Mr. McWhinney has made a name for himself in the industry. Since 1991, he had developed and planned over 6,000 acres of land. He has also developed over 4.5 million square feet of office, medical, retail, industrial, and residential properties. This includes over 1,700 multi-family apartment homes.
McWhinney Real Estate Services, Inc. is a fully integrated and diversified real estate company that creates properties for long-term ownership. Mr. McWhinney focuses on large-scale, multi-use developments and projects, while also developing managing numerous income producing properties of his own.
In the past, Chad served as a Colorado State University System Board of Governors board member and the Director of the Poudre Valley Health System.
During his more than 20 years in the industry, McWhinney has developed and acquired more than $1 billion in assets. While he has caught the eye of Wall Street investors, he prefers to remain private, saying, “We’re long-term focused; Wall Street isn’t.”
